The concept of the heritage ecosystem views cultural heritage as an integrated whole that includes tangible and intangible elements, people, and their relationships with natural, social, and economic environments. Proposed at an international symposium in 2025, it addresses the challenge that attention often concentrates on specific heritage components, obscuring the diversity of heritage and its connections with society at the regional level. This Subcommittee seeks to position the concept within international ICOMOS discourse, promote its dissemination through the analysis of practical models and international dialogue, and contribute to cultural heritage protection and sustainable local development toward 2034.
