Kumamoto Earthquake
The series of massive earthquakes started rattling wide parts of Kumamoto and Oita Prefectures on 14 April
2016 and have killed 49 people, wounded about 1,100 people, and left 1 person unaccounted for, as of 26
April. As for damages to residential buildings, 1,553 of them have reportedly been destroyed, 1,460
buildings are half-destroyed and, 2457 buildings are partially damaged.
"The 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake Report on Damages to the Cultural Properties and Recommendation for their Restration and Rehabilitation" has been issued.

In occasion with the opening of the information meeting on the researches of the damages caused by the earthquake, we distributed the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake Japan ICOMOS Research Report, to inform about the damages, the conditions of the National Cultural Properties and the perspective of their restoration.
